Abstract
Studies had been made on the coagulase activity, antibiotic sensitivity and phage type of staphylococci, isolated from the patients with chronic otitis media who were treated at the Kyungpook University Hospital. The following results were obtained.
1. Of 160 samples. 86 strains of staphylococci were isolated. Among these 42(48.8%) were coagulase positive.
2. The antibiotic sensitivity test was performed by agar plate method and it was found that the chloramphenicol-resident strains were the most predominant. The resistant strains against achromycin, penicillin, terramycin and aureomycin were also found in considerably high rates (about one fourth to a half). Resistant strains were more frequently found in coagulase positive strains than in negative, and multiple resistant strains were also found more frequently in coagulase positive than in negative.
3. Phage group ¥± was the most predominant (28.5%), and the next in order were groups ¥°, ¥± and miscellaneous. Strains belonging to group ¥³ was not found.
4. Phage type belonging to 52/52A/80/81 complex was about one third of total isolated coagulase positive strains. (Authors¢¥ abstract)
